How to tell if the Holy Spirit is moving in a place

There are several ways determine if Holy Spirit is moving in a church service.

  • The worship is real and it’s not mechanical. The congregation is really involved and you can see it on their faces. God isn’t being sung to, He’s really being worshiped.
  • The pastor does something different. He breaks up the usual way of doing things.
  • New people show up and come back, but not for stuff.
  • Repentance is emphasized and so is the cross and the holiness of God.
  • There is an absence of false doctrine. There are no idols.
  • There’s an absence of strife among believers. Sure iron sharpens iron, but people aren’t arguing about petty things that God isn’t concerned about. You don’t have to worry about inviting people that don’t like each other to the same event
  • Financial goals are met easily. There’s no overbearing emphasis on giving.
  • That festival with the pumpkins is totally ignored. It isn’t godly and it has zero to do with God moving.
  • People are led to start ministries for homeless, abortion alternatives, and street ministry.
  • Disciples are being made.
  • Discernment is highly present as a gifting in that group of believers. People discern things. They don’t make the mistake of assuming a lady is moved by the Spirit when she is on the ground moving like a snake (they cast the python spirit out of her).
  • The church isn’t rich. Excess funds are sent to missions or spent on meeting physical needs of people. The pastor isn’t rich either. If he/she is, you may be at a social club.
  • The pastor has a spine and will tell it like it is (we need to repent!), but doesn’t overstep and tell you what to do. He or she trusts the Holy Spirit. If they do, you may be in a Christian cult. Watch Jay Capri’s Facebook video on Repent or Perish. It’s Holy Spirit inspired. It’s part of the gospel! It’s not watered down like the milk past served at many churches.
  • Good works abound. Nursery duty is filled and volunteers for other things are plentiful.
  • You see huge smiles and not frowns.
  • Inerrancy and sufficiency of Scripture is taught.
