Should Christians Practice Yoga?

Millions of Americans practice yoga on a regular basis and they’re mostly women; in Sanskrit yoga means yoke – joined with Brahma. So we’re not starting off on a good footing. The root of it is to become one with Brahma. Eek!

As Christians were called to not give an appearance of evil. The yoga message is to empty your mind but as Christians we are supposed to meditate on whatsoever is good and lovely.

Exercising, calisthenics and stretching are not inherently evil; we don’t need assistance from yoga teachers to do that. Ask God what He thinks about this.

Discernment is to be applied to even exercise. This was hard for me. When I was living in the world, I was OK with yoga. I did it regularly. Now I am not okay with it. I broke association with it and do not use it. I threw my yoga, Pilates and tai chi videos in the trash. I had to cancel YouTube subscriptions and Facebook likes; I was OK with that. Nothing is more important than my relationship with Jesus. I am his and he is mine so I can find other ways to exercise that honor him.

When we make Jesus Lord of our life all things in our life are up to His Lordship.

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! – 2 Cor 5:17

Anyhow, I heard this interview with some swami guy say Christians should pray to Jesus or do yoga. We should chose. I choose Jesus.

“Christian“ yoga is not Christian – it’s a way to justify worldly ways. The same groups that are compromising about this or compromising about other areas that Christian shouldn’t compromise.

I’m a child of God who has found joy and peace in Jesus, the King of the universe. He alone is worthy of all praise and glory. I’m a bivocational pastor and vegan who crochets and talks all things Jesus.
