Doctrine matters

Sound doctrine can transform you. Words have power and the words we believe can change our lives.

Words matter.

You have heard stick and stones may break your bones but words can never hurt you; it’s a lie. Mein kamf was a 1925 autobiographical account of Hitler’s beliefs. The words in this book left a negative affect on history because they shaped beliefs that led to actions that cause us sorrow to this day. Words matter.

He is risen. That’s a short sentence but it changed human history more than any other three words

Ok in Titus chapter 2, Paul says we should rebuke and exhort anything that isn’t sound doctrine. Paul teaches if we have sound doctrine, it will lead to right living. Ladies, we have to be careful not to fall prey to books by false teachers. You may want to research authors before purchasing a book.

The majority of book studies out there are so mixed up with truth and lies that it’s like wading through a field with land mines to make it through alive. But without reading and knowing your Bible which means it should be your primary reading material, not the latest best seller you are not equipped to navigate the land mines and make it through unscathed.

– Beth Siefert in “on capturing weak women”

Run from any teacher that teaches things that are contrary to the word of God. If you hear a “Christian” book title that sounds good playing to your emotions – it’s probably a false teacher. When someone recommends a book to me, I ask google if it’s a false teacher. If they are, a whole list of stuff comes up. Try that with some of the books on your bookshelf.

Don’t be discouraged or defensive if some people on your bookshelf are exposed as false teachers in your Google search. Use it. Go back to the book and read with different eyes now and you’ll see the error. Ask the Holy Spirit to expose the error and put a big red X by everything that’s an error. Then expose them before you unfollow them on social media. I just unfollowed them I wished I had exposed them first.

Please teach others this method and share this blog with them. It’s not a monetized blog so I’m not making any money from it in fact I’m paying money to make this blog.

When you put on truth and sound doctrine, it changes your life into something really beautiful. Years ago I told my friend who showed me a photo of herself when she was young that I thought she was beautiful in her 70s. Her husband spoke up “it’s the Holy Spirit you see.” When you live in obedience to God, the Holy Spirit radiates out of you and you look stunning to others.

Obedience is true beauty.

Have you accepted the true gospel? It’s not easy or comfortable; it calls for your daily denial of self. Or have you put on a counterfeit gospel? I heard David Platt teaching about this. He talked about if you brought a counterfeit bill to deposit in the bank. You would get it confiscated and you would be out the money. It’s just money. If you have fallen for a counterfeit gospel, everything is at stake: eternity in Heaven or eternal suffering in Hell.

Hear David Platt teach on this subject

A counterfeit gospel may have many things right, but one thing wrong can invalidate the whole message. For example, Jehovah’s Witness believe that Jesus was a created being and not God. That invalidates their entire church; they are hell bound until they repent. The same is true in Islam; all Muslims go to hell unless they repent of this. Seventh day Adventist believe in a form of works salvation and need to repent of that. The list goes on. I will be doing a page on false religions soon.
