Sometimes numbers can be boring. Who actually likes them? Me personally, I hate doing my taxes because it’s all about money and numbers. I usually pay too much because I lose my receipts for deductions and lose those deductions.
The book of Numbers in the Old Testament has passages that can be boring, but still important! Numbers is divided into two sections: The instructions while still at Sinai and the wilderness journey. The latter part of the book starting in Chapter 10 is the more interesting section.
Takeaways from this book:
- When we respond to God’s promise to us we need to be positive about it and not pessimistic because it can have serious consequences to us.
- God is slow to reveal his anger to us. He is patient wanting all of us to come to repentance and relationship with Him.
- We need to maintain an attitude of gratitude even when there is a need in our lives.
- Jesus is the provider! If he can get water out of a rock how much more can he do in our lives?
- Messianic prophecy is seen in chapter 24 verse 17! Yes, in this boring book there was an important announcement!
- The Holy Spirit was at work! See chapter 11! Big tasks require big power from the King of the universe.
Praise be to God who gave us His Word and tells us many secrets in it! The Hebrew name for the book is “In the wilderness.” That’s where they were following an invisible God. As you see, even in this tough spot in our Bible reading plan we can see lessons on how to follow our invisible God. We may not be able to see Jesus, but we are blessed because we can’t see him and yet still believe.
