I was an idolatrous fake Christian

You must not have any other god before me.

Exodus 20:3 NLT

That is the second commandment unless you have a Catholic Bible where that was taken out.

Look at definition 6 from dictionary.com!

There’s only one way to God and any other way that a person makes up is idolatry. God loves us immensely – enough to come here and die for us, but we come to Him His way or not at all. We may up our own ideal god and we base our actions on that.

At least I did. I remember asking Jesus into my heart many years ago. The only problem with that – it’s not Biblical. In my experience I was told I needed to ask Jesus into my heart because I wasn’t saved and needed him to forgive my sins. Oh okay sure why not? That is how you make a head knowledge Christian.

Let’s look at the prodigal son:

The son said to him, “Father I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.”

Luke 15:21 NIV

There was true repentance here. My false conversion was nothing like this. What I did was behavior modification and that didn’t totally transform me. There were signs, but I guess most people missed them. Things that should have been a clue to family were overlooked.

For of this you can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a person is an idolater—has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.

Ephesians 5:5 NIV

An idolater is an unbeliever. There’s only one kind of believer; Jesus sets the standards – see the words in red.

I get it now. There’s a lot of things I didn’t get as an idolater. It’s like there’s an Aha! moment when I hear a hymn. I am not spiritually dead so I understand. I totally get them.

There were a few people along the years who, quite honestly, I wish had spoken up. They could see the worldliness in me, but didn’t say anything. The consequences were severe: a string of broken marriages and children that didn’t get the mom they deserved. Not to mention all the souls I didn’t reach those years. I’m thinking of several I didn’t reach and feel horrible about it.

I apologize to all who encountered me in those years of idolatry. I know I broke your hearts plus I passed on false doctrine. I especially apologize to my sons who I wish could have been raised by the woman I am today.

Please stop asking people to ask Jesus into their hearts it’s nowhere in the Bible. Jesus said to repent and follow him.

If you love him any less than what he specified, biblically you’re not a follower – you’re an idolater. I’m sorry, not sorry to be so blunt. I wish someone had been this blunt with me years ago.

Jesus loves you and paid the big price for you. Follow him. Start by praying for forgiveness and a commitment to follow him. Set aside an hour each day to read the Bible. If you don’t have one, go to Biblehub.com. Also download the Through the Word app; it will help you grow in faith.

If you’re not reading your Bible every day you’re not growing. You are not becoming like him. Examine yourself to see if you are in the faith.

Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.

Romans 10:17 NIV
Devour the Word like it’s your last meal!

God uses His word to grow and transform you. If you don’t read your Bible you die spiritually and you start sinning. If you are in love with Jesus Christ, you want to read his word and you don’t need someone to tell you to do it. If you’re not reading it on your own, you’re probably idolater. I know I wasn’t reading it, because I didn’t feel I needed it. I did need it however because I was sinning up a storm and I wasn’t happy.

If you see someone or encounter someone in your life the claims to be a Christian, but has both feet in the world living in a worldly life, say something. You may be the only one doing it. They are praying to statues or doing other things that make them look just like the world, you have to say something. I get it it’s not easy ask God for the words and pray like crazy for them.

Silence isn’t golden.
