Ending a Child

Many have said that the Bible doesn’t mention the word abortion, but we can infer that it is wrong. I disagree. I want to address this not from a Biblical stance first. Let’s not use the Bible and examine the primary source evidence. The clip below is from the Planned Parenthood website. You can go there and check it out.

Let’s take a look at the first sentence only. The latter part is the part that needs some clarification. What does “ends a pregnancy” mean?

According to dictionary.com, pregnancy means “the state, condition, or quality of being pregnant.” Pregnant means “having a child or other offspring developing in the body; with child or young, as a woman or female mammal.” So pregnancy is the state, condition or quality of being with child.

Let’s go back to the abortion definition: a medical procedure that ends being with child. Pregnancy ends a child. Ending a life is murder. Therefore, abortion is murder. Even we don’t need the Bible to determine that abortion is wrong; we only need one semester of college level logic class. At 21 days there is a heart which beats at day 28 and at 40 days there is brain activity; this is before the mother even knows she is with child. Source

What about the back alley butchers that will kill young girls if abortion is illegal? Well “young girls” who want to end a pregnancy are murderers as defined with logic above. I’m okay with them not having a safe, comfortable place to end a child. It’s not morally right to aide in the comfort of a murder.

What about rape and incest? What about it? We have doctors that should make medical determinations about pregnancies. It’s not our place to say that a life isn’t viable in these cases, it’s a doctor’s place. You’ve heard the saying two wrongs don’t make a right. That applies.

Lastly, there are bystander and good samaritan laws in many states in the USA, including mine. We are obligated to assist when people are being harmed. That really does put us in a quandary. Abortion, although logically wrong, is legal. Makes you think, doesn’t it? What should our response be?

People deserve respect, but so do children.

Lastly, Bible verses that support pro-life:

  • Jeremiah 20:17
  • Amos 1:13
  • Jeremiah 7:6
