But understand this: In the last days terrible times will come. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good, traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. Turn away from such as these!
2 Timothy 3:1-5
Sound like today’s world? Unfortunately, it does. We are in a world that’s so much different then the world of 50 years ago.
For men will be lovers of themselves rather than lovers of God. If you walk into any library or bookstore there’s a whole section on self help. We are taught that we must love ourselves first and pamper ourselves first before we can love others. What’s the scripture verse for that? I can’t find a single one.
Self first theology isn’t Biblical. Jesus first is the island model for Christian living. Self first is shoved at us all the time. A commercial set between TV shows is geared towards self and to sell you up the idea to spend money on you. As the Holy Spirit gives me these ideas to write know I’m also under conviction. I’m thinking how much I’ve bought has ended up in thrift stores and landfills and how the money could’ve better been spent on kingdom work.
We’re lovers of money. We hold onto it instead of using it to further his work. If the Lord comes tomorrow, who will live in that house you keep sinking money into? Who will spend that retirement nest egg? Is our treasure really in Heaven or is it here on this Earth? I need to repent of this.
We’re boastful at times. How about we repent of this too replacing I with the Lord? For example, this blog is totally Holy Spirit inspired. I didn’t even want to do it. This project is his and for his glory. I could say the Lord’s blog instead of my blog. We’d like to boast about our plans or things. Maybe we should stop that.
Nobody wants to be around someone arrogant. Every morsel of arrogance has got to go. It works against the Holy Spirit.
Child abuse is such a problem we have to have an agency for it. We have shelters for battered women to run away from the spouse that supposed to love them.
I could go on about each one of those listed above, but it’s better if the Holy Spirit expounds on them. Meditate on this passage and see what goes says to you.
This passage breaks my heart because I see it being played out in real time.
The conclusion is this sounds like we are in the last days. The bride of Christ has to run from these things and run to holiness. Say yes to Jesus.
