A minister should preach like a dying man to dying men.
George Whitfield
Country singer Tim McGraw had a hit a few years ago called “Live Like You’re Dying” and it has a lot of good points in it, including forgiveness and taking a good long, look at the Bible. It talks about being a good friend and a good spouse, and these are noble things.
I think I would’ve added:
- Get the gospel in the hands and ears of as many people as possible. We who are believers are all called to tell the good news. That’s the last directive from Jesus before He ascended to heaven. The last thing you say to somebody when you leave them is usually really important!
- I would bring all of my actions to God and repent of any deed or thought that doesn’t bring glory to God.
- I would pray like crazy for the people I love. I’d pray without ceasing.
- I would say yes to God right away every time. I would resist the devil and his schemes.
- I would give thanks to God for everything and in everything.
- I would give Him praise for everything.
So this dying list is stuff I’m already supposed to be doing! How many of us are actually do it? Well, friends, we are dying. The moment we were born, we started growing, but our days were numbered By God.
30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’[a]31 The second is this: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’[b] There is no commandment greater than these.” Mark 12:30-31
These verses need a revisit. If we fully accomplish these, we will change the world.
