Jesus did not swoon on the cross. There is not a single 1st century source that recorded that Jesus survived the crucifixion. The Jewish Talmud, the Christian eyewitnesses, and Roman historian Josephus all recorded His death as fact.
Roman flogging was severe. The cat of nine tails tore skin and flesh. Going to the cross, you are already in a weakened state. You have to move to breathe, so there’s no mistaking death. No one survived full Roman crucifixion. They ruined your hands when they crucified you. The fact that He died on the cross is not debatable. It’s airtight and the evidence is clear.
After a flogging and a crucifixion, there is no way He could bust himself out of the tomb with wounded hands and a badly beaten body. When Jesus appeared to them, He was risen and recognized. A miracle had happened.
When Paul saw the Lord on the road to Emmaus, he didn’t question that He was the resurrected Lord.
Mark 14:62 is proof that Jesus was God. So is John 8:58. Mark 6:50 has another I am statement. The I am statement is His claim to divinity. Author of the Old Testament, that is how God referred to Himself. He also called Himself the Son of Man, which was an Old Testament term for divinity as well.
It doesn’t make sense that a badly beaten crucifixion survivor would be just fine three days later. It does make sense if you are the great I Am.
Jesus is coming back on the clouds as a divine ruler. Yes, He says He sits at the right hand of God, which means co-ruler with God. People in the first century understood this term. That’s why they tore the robes. They understood that He was saying He was God to the point where He could go into the Holy of Holies and sit on the throne, while the high priest could only go in once a year with a rope around his foot.
Jesus forgave sins. They accused Him of blasphemy. He did miracles in His own name. John said Jesus was the Word and the Word was God and through Him all things were made. Thomas said to Jesus my Lord and my God. Oh, everyone understood that Jesus said He was God, and that’s why they killed Him. He was recognized both as the Creator and as the sovereign Lord. Jesus did not rebuke people who bowed to Him.
Jesus is God.
