Are you a good person?

Let’s take a good person test.

• How many lies have you told is your life?
• Have you ever dishonored your mother or your father?
• Have you ever had hate in your heart for anyone?
• Have you ever stolen anything no matter what the cost? (Pirated movies or music, stolen a pen from work, or cheated on an exam or taxes)
• Have you ever used God’s name as a swear word (said Jesus Christ as an exclamation or OMG)?
• Have you ever had a sexual thought about someone that wasn’t your spouse?

The Truth

That was only 6 of the 10 commandments. We are not as good as we like to think. In fact, we fail miserably at being what God thinks is a good person. If you failed the good person test, you likely admitted to yourself that at some point in your life you have sinned and you are not a good person, just like the rest of us. You may be thinking, “Wow, I’m not as good as I thought.” We are like sheep that have gone astray and wandered from God, but He is the Good Shepherd and comes looking for us!

We are all sinners.

The Bible tells us all have sinned and fall terribly short of the glory of God, which is Jesus. We fail the good person test quickly. God does not judge us in comparison to other people. He judges us in comparison to His law and we fail miserably. We are in trouble before a holy God. He made a provision to forgive us our sins. He came to this earth and died as a sacrifice for our sins. Three days later, He raised Himself.

How you can be right with God:

• Ask Jesus to forgive your sins. List as many as you can think of and then ask Him for the ones you can’t think of.
• Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and thank Him for dying on the cross for you. Put your complete trust in Jesus. You can’t do anything to earn forgiveness.
• Repent; that means turn away from sin. Ask Him for the Holy Spirit as a Helper to help you live a new life.

Good news

Jesus paid the price for your sin.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only son that who so ever believes in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Welcome to the family of God. If you asked God to forgive your sins, confessed with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and made a decision from your heart to turn away from your sin, you are part of God’s eternal family.

Get involved with a church. Ask Him to lead you to the right one. Some churches have false doctrine, and some of them are just dead churches in which you won’t grow.
