You may have heard this expression before and I guess it means pray a lot. Do we? Do I? I have to admit, I fall short. I want God to be my best friend, but things sometimes get in the way. Even sometimes I’m too busy doing God’s work.
Sometimes we feel like we don’t know how to pray. Even the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray and He taught them the Lord’s prayer.
I heard Minister Joe Kirby teach on the method of prayer that had four parts in the acronym ACTS.
‘A’ is for adoration. God really is worthy of our praise. Even there is a Bible verse about this: Psalm 100:4. “Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.”
‘C’ is for confess. We have a sinful nature and we sin daily. 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”
‘T’ is for thanksgiving. Psalm 107:1 “Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good, for His steadfast love endures forever!”
‘S’ is for supplication. We don’t really use this word, so many people don’t even know what it means. It means it asking for stuff. Comes from the root word supply. If we have done our adoration, confession, and thanksgiving, we come to God in a much better state of knowing what to ask for!
Try praying the ACTS way and see if you notice a big difference in your faith and prayer life. Notice how the Lord’s prayer has adoration, confession, and thanksgiving before supplication?
Pray without ceasing.
1 Thessalonians 5:17
We tend to take a lot of things to other people before we take them to God. Let’s do this together. Let’s take our concerns to the Father first and know He’s got this.
