Freedom and the Frog in a Kettle

In the United States, we are afforded certain freedoms that other countries are not blessed to have. We have freedom of religion, speech, and right to peaceful assembly. All of those have been under attack.

There may come a time when people of faith will lose their freedom, and that day seems to be nearing. The attacks on freedom of religion seem to be mostly centered around Christianity. What used to be considered normal, acceptable expression of religious freedom is increasingly being targeted by those who don’t subscribe to it.

Have you ever heard of the frog in the kettle? George Barna wrote The zfrog in the Kettle in 1991. He tells about if you try to put a live frog in a kettle of boiling water it will jump right out because it senses danger. If you try to put the frog in cold water it will stay there. If you slowly turn the heat up the frog will remain there until he boils to death because he doesn’t sense danger.

We are in that second kettle, Christians. They are chipping away at everything. Marriage has been redefined and the rainbow has been hijacked. God has been kicked out of school and replaced with hate. What was good is now bad and what was bad is now good.

We are living in a post-Christian America. The fragile state of our government is apparent. The decay of our society is evident. How will you respond? Some will buy guns and learn how to shoot. Some will give it up and abandon their faith. Me, I’m going to point people to the cross and the constitution and in that order.

When you see my coffin carried to the silent grave, I should like every one of you, whether converted or not, to be constrained to say, “He did earnestly urge us, in plain and simple language, not to put off the consideration of eternal things. He did entreat us to look to Christ.”

C.H. Spurgeon

Keep praying, sharing the gospel, and making disciples. God isn’t sleeping and He hears our cries. We are living in historic times. As the day of the Lord’s return draws near, let us press on. Don’t give up or give into hate. Love always.
