Modalism is a form of Christian heresy that denies the Trinity. Popular preachers like TD Jakes and Steven Furtick hold to this deviation from mainstream Christianity.
This theology teaches that God the Father shifts “modes” to be God the Son and then he transforms into the Holy Spirit, but he doesn’t display as all three at the same time. So basically this theology teaches that God can’t be all three at once.
That is why there is a ton of blogs that bash the theology of the two mentioned above. It’s not because they’re being righteous and doing God’s will, it is because they preach a different gospel.
“Don’t judge,” they say. Even the world loves that verse! They’ll quote Matthew chapter 7 verse one all day long. They’ll quickly tell you a sermon about those two words in chapter 7 while ignoring the rest of the chapter that says that we should judge. The plank has to be out of our own eye first and then we can judge our brothers’ messages and lives.
Verses 15 through 19 are instructions on how to judge teachers. We are to judge them by their fruit. We are instructed how to judge.
In Acts, chapter 17 the Bereans search the scripture to see if what was being taught matched the scripture. 11And the people of Berea were more open-minded than those in Thessalonica, and they listened eagerly to Paul’s message. They searched the Scriptures day after day to see if Paul and Silas were teaching the truth.
In 1 Corinthians 5 verse 12 we are told we should judge those in the church. We are not to judge those outside the church; God is their judge. Judging is part of the Christian duty, but it is for the mature believer. Young believers will be swept away by false doctrine.
Scripture tells us that older women should teach the young women. Why is that? Young women don’t have enough experience studying the scripture and need the older women to help them stay true to the gospel. Older women help give younger women the foundation for Christian life so they won’t be tossed around and get confused when heresy rears its head.
Back to Matthew chapter 7 verse 24. It says he who hears the word and does it is wise. If we hear the word of the Lord and apply it, this pleases the Lord. He doesn’t want us to hear His word and then rely on our own understanding, because our own understanding is not so great. When the Spirit gives light to a verse, it’s true wisdom.
