Psalm 2 with Commentary

Acts 2 attributes this Psalm to David. It’s a prophetic Psalm pointing to Jesus. It’s highly relevant to today and worthy of memorization.

1Why do the nations ragea
and the peoples plot in vain?
2The kings of the earth set themselves,
and the rulers take counsel together,
against the LORD and against his Anointed, saying,
3“Let us burst their bonds apart
and cast away their cords from us.”

Does this sound like today or what? The rulers today hide their contempt for God. This wasn’t the case when I arrived on Earth. Christian things are specifically targeted be eliminated. A cross that has stood for a long time is suddenly targeted for removal. Christian phrases are targeted for removal in this cancel culture we have in the USA. Even pastors are jailed for holding church.

4He who sits in the heavens laughs;
the Lord holds them in derision.
5Then he will speak to them in his wrath,
and terrify them in his fury, saying,

Make no mistake, God is supreme. We tremble in fear over COVID, climate change and natural disasters. The explosions that took place to form stars, planets, and galaxies didn’t cause God any concern. He’s not worried about the future; it is in His hand.

6“As for me, I have set my King
on Zion, my holy hill.”

Jesus is Lord and King. Hallelujah! He will rule from Jerusalem! Blessed be the King.

7I will tell of the decree:
The LORD said to me, “You are my Son;
today I have begotten you.
8Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage,
and the ends of the earth your possession.
9You shall breakb them with a rod of iron
and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.”

The Earth belongs to Jesus and He will claim it on the day He returns. Justice will come and He will rule. This is prophecy of events to come. My prayer for today is for Jesus to break my will daily so that He can shine. May the Potter shape me into something useful.

10Now therefore, O kings, be wise;
be warned, O rulers of the earth.

THIS! That verse should go on a T-shirt. This warning is eternal- for all time. Ungodly presidents you are served notice. Be wise! What is true wisdom? The next verse tells us!

11Serve the LORD with fear,
and rejoice with trembling.

This is wisdom. Serve, rejoice, and tremble. That sums it up. They should put it on a T-shirt also.

12Kiss the Son,
lest he be angry, and you perish in the way,
for his wrath is quickly kindled.
Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

My loyalty as to the King of the universe who brings fruit from the dirt and gave His life for me.

I’m a child of God who has found joy and peace in Jesus, the King of the universe. He alone is worthy of all praise and glory. I’m a bivocational pastor and vegan who crochets and talks all things Jesus.
