My prayer closet should be the most used room in the apartment/house. The kitchen and the bathroom get a lot of use, why not the prayer closet? We’ve all been guilty at one time or another of saying “I’ll pray for you,” and then not do it. I know I have. I repented and continue to repent of that.
Get a physical notebook. There’s something about writing down, with a pen or pencil, a prayer request. It’s a commitment in your life to pray for a person in need. Then when that prayer is answered, mark it with a green check mark.

Prayer isn’t a bunch of fancy words. God knows who you are and you’re not there to impress him. Talk like you normally do to him. Religious people like to use fancy words, but Jesus followers talk to God in plain language. It’s okay and preferable to talk to God like you would your dad.
How do you pray? The Lord’s prayer is a model for us.
- Address Him with the respect due to Him.
- Number one on the list: confess your sins to God and ask Him to change you to His image.
- Pray in His will. Sometimes our prayers are not answered because we’re praying outside of God’s will. You can’t pray for a winning lottery ticket for example. You can pray for the salvation of people, for guidance what you should do in a situation, and health and healing for an individual or yourself.
- God has done so much for us that He deserves more than a thank you; He deserves gratitude.
Go have a chat with Jesus; it’s good for you!
