Psalm 57 is of great comfort and worthy of memorization. Here are verses one and two:
1Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy, for in You my soul takes refuge. In the shadow of Your wings I will take shelter until the danger has passed. 2I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills His purpose for me.
He’s working out His purpose for us!
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose. Romans 8:28
Know that God is working things out in His timing. His timing may not match ours. There may be things we need to clean up in our lives before God can release a blessing to us.
No matter what our circumstances are, we can fix our eyes on Jesus. Remember in Matthew chapter 14 when Jesus walked on water and Peter wanted to go to Him?
28And Peter answered Him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind,e he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31Jesus immediately reached out His hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33And those in the boat worshiped Him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Peter walked on water as long as his eyes were on Jesus. When he took his eyes off Jesus, the water overtook him. We have great power to do miraculous things in Jesus.
David fixed his eyes on the Lord and His word.
8You have kept count of my tossings;c
put my tears in your bottle.
Are they not in your book?
9Then my enemies will turn back
in the day when I call.
This I know, thatd God is for me.
10In God, whose word I praise,
in the LORD, whose word I praise,
11in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.
What can man do to me? Psalm 56
God’s Word, the Bible, has great power to transform our lives! Reading it for hours a day really has helped me get through rough patches in my life. Reading it aloud is even better! It’s okay if your audience is only one; God is with you and He hears you.
The world will tell you to trust in yourself and your abilities in times of distress, but our abilities pale in comparison to God’s abilities. We can trust our own solutions or know that God already has it worked out for us and that all things work together for good to those who love the Lord.
