The Holiday that isn’t a Holy Day

There is nothing holy about Halloween. It’s the devil’s day and bad things happen on it. The world loves Halloween, though, because their eyes are blinded. Sometimes even the church is deceived.

2Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2

Is Halloween good? I think that you’ll lose an argument about that. Cavities and bad eating habits are formed at an early age and Halloween reinforces those bad habits. There are numerous pranks that are done on that day. In one city I was at, the police had a problem the day after Halloween with lots of dead animals found. The church of satan had a strong hold in that city. That day is a holy day for Wiccans as well. Should we celebrate their holy day? I think not!

Is Halloween pleasing to God? Well to answer that, look at who it honors. It’s not God. If you look at the costumes, it’s easy to say it’s not God. And some people say, “what about church celebrations with biblical costumes?” Go back to Romans 12 verse two “do not conform”. That’s not a suggestion. It’s a directive.

Is Halloween the perfect will of God? Since it doesn’t give glory to God, the answer would be no. There is no praise given to God on that day. His name isn’t exalted on that day. Greed is promoted on that day. Images of the spirit of death are promoted on that day, as well as witchcraft. Graveyards, skeletons, and witches are an abomination. If these things are offensive, put them aside.

Can a Christian celebrate Halloween? I think the question is so ridiculous. If you’re wanting to celebrate Halloween, please carefully examine your faith like James says to see if it’s a real faith. Personally, I’ve never met anyone on fire for God who celebrates Halloween. I’ve met plenty of compromising ones that have.

Backsliders aren’t Christians. They are the seed that fell on rocky soil. The cares and concerns of this world choke out the seed and it bears no fruit. It’s not a real heart commitment. The back slider has never won anybody to the Lord. They won’t. They don’t really care about such things. Until the backslider has a holy encounter with God, they won’t care.

So in short, the answer is no. A Christian can’t celebrate Halloween. To be in a right relationship with God, we must be in obedience. Just because YOU put Jesus in something, that doesn’t make it holy. It’s only holy if Jesus puts Himself there. That holiday is for the world and we are called to life, not death.

Do you want skeletons, witches and ghosts or do you want the Living God?
