103 How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!104 I gain understanding from your precepts; therefore I hate every wrong path.105 Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.
Psalm 119
The word of God is meant to be a light in our lives. We actually have to turn that light on by reading the word of God. Christian, if you’re not reading the word of God, you are fooling yourself. You cannot be a strong Christian without the word of God. You cannot be a strong spiritual leader without sitting your family down together and reading the word of God and praying with them.
Plants either grow or they die. The same holds true for our spiritual walks. We are either growing in the Lord we’re growing cold slowly. You can’t coast in the Lord. If you read the book of Revelation, you will see what God says about the lukewarm church. If you provide breakfast, lunch, and dinner for your family yet don’t give them the word of God, you’re still leaving them hungry. You have to pray for them too. If you don’t, you will when they are older but from the POV (point of view) of desperation.
Someone under your roof may be struggling with something really bad and you don’t even know it because you’re not doing devotions with them. Perhaps somebody under your roof is following a false gospel right now – that will come out during a family devotion. Be a leader and start doing this tonight!
Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place
Ephesians 6:13
Why do we wear belts? To protect us! (Our privacy!) We need belts. The belt of truth is the word of God. That’s the first thing you put on in your spiritual armor to defeat the enemy. Unless you put that on, the rest is useless. If you’re not reading the word of God, examine your heart to see if it’s a real commitment to God. Friend, I don’t want you to get left behind when the church is raptured. That day is nearing and if you miss the rapture, you’re going to have to suffer a lot.
My strategy is Bible before breakfast. I need some word from God and some worship time every day before I feed myself with food. I have to see the words of God and hear the words of God. They are my sustenance to make it through the day. When I put Him first, I feel joy in the midst of hard work and the present circumstances. Jesus wants to be the love of your life. No matter how much you love Him, He loves you more.
Which is more important to you, food or spiritual food?
When I discovered your words, I devoured them. They are my joy and my heart’s delight, for I bear your name, O LORD God of Heaven’s Armies. Jeremiah 15:16
