For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.”
Hebrews 12:6
In Christian life we often see things that we need to improve and ask the Holy Spirit to help transform our selves into the likeness of Christ. This often happens through sermons and reading the word of God. Sometimes we don’t see it coming, but it hits us like a Mack truck. That happened to me yesterday.
I’ve been praying for spiritual growth for both myself and my family. I’ve been praying that myself, my two sons and my beautiful daughter-in-law would become lighthouses of love and truth for the Kingdom. I’m going to add something to that now after the chastisement I received from the Lord. I’m going to add our mouths be rushing waterfalls of blessings for others and barren of curses. I have a prayer journal notebook where I record my prayers. Yesterday I started a section in my journal devoted to both sons and a daughter section for my daughter in law. I’m praying blessings ONLY on the three of them.
We have to pray more. My goal is an hour in the morning because we should pray for everyone! It doesn’t hurt to offer prayers to people we pass on the street. We may be the only person that prays for that person that day. Praying for a person is an act of love.
The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’
Matthew 25:40
If I say something or do something kind for a stranger I’ve done that to Jesus. The reverse is true. Saying something unkind to a stranger is saying that to Jesus. I really have to evaluate I everything that comes out of my mouth so everything is a blessing. It says whatever you did is doing it to Jesus.
Walking in the Spirit involves blessing people not cursing. I don’t mean saying cuss words I mean saying bad words about them.
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Ephesians 4:29
That’s where the rubber meets the road we say in America. As Christians we shouldn’t be saying anything unwholesome or unhelpful. We should only build up. We should only say things that benefit others. Ouch. Those who listen include Jesus. He doesn’t excuse our cuss words or crude talk. Think about how you talk and how you would change that talk if Jesus did before you right now. He is there. We make Him sad with our mouths.
Garbage in garbage out is a computer term. It means if you put garbage programming into the computer you’re going to get garbage out. The same is true with us if we’re watching a stream of vulgarity and crudeness, guess what comes out? The same.
What about you? What do you want for you? Are you cursing other peoples lives or are you blessing other people’s lives? Ask God to change your heart so that the overflow will be a Niagara Falls of blessings on other people’s lives.
Please comment if I can pray for you.
