Living for Jesus

There’s a difference between being a nominal Christian and living for Jesus. The Devil would like us to believe that they are one and the same. It’s a big deception.

If you are a nominal Christian, you make the plan for the day without consulting your Father. You are the driver and you are living for you. You bend to other people’s requests and are distracted from fulfilling God’s plan for the day.

Most of us fall in that camp. We live for self and Jesus well we invite Him in occasionally by talking about Him. We have a living to make, shopping to do, and other people need favors from us. Our days pass and Jesus sits quietly on the sidelines waiting for us to yield to Him.

What would really living for Jesus look like? Would it mean we have to go be missionaries in Africa? Probably not. Pretty soon Africa may to start sending missionaries to the US. We are the mission field with a sleepy church full of people thinking they are living for Jesus by wearing a cross pendant and reading the Bible a whole ten minutes before breakfast.

Living for Jesus means He makes the plan. He is the one you consult about what needs to be done. It involves yielding to Holy Spirit promptings to pray, call or do stuff for other people.

Living for Jesus means hanging out with Him for long periods of time. Fifteen minutes doesn’t cut it. God wants to spend time with you. He didn’t create Adam because He needed a gardener. Hang out with Jesus until you look like Him. Chase Jesus. Binge Jesus.

Living for Jesus involves faith. Believe He rewards those who diligently seek Him. Faith is a byproduct of a relationship with God. If God says something, it’s true. I am obligated to believe Him. We know that faith comes by hearing and hearing comes by the word of God.

Will you continue to be a nominal Christian or do you want to live for Jesus?
