The door

7So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

John 10:7-10

Progressive Christianity likes to say that all paths lead to God, but that’s not what Jesus taught. I am the door. All other doors don’t lead to salvation. When God declares something, there is no room for arguments or discussions. Only Jesus Christ is the door to salvation.

Am I saying; Islam, Hinduism, Sikhism, Buddhism, Mormonism, Jehovah’s Witness are all wrong? Yep. And their followers are on the path that leads to destruction.

Jesus knew that there were other religions. He called them thieves because they are thieves of peoples’ souls. They destroyed peoples’ chances for intimacy with God eternally. When you look at it from that perspective his words were not harsh, but gracious.

He said that the head thief has the destruction of the sheep as his goal. He wants to kill them, destroy them and steal them from Him.

Why?

We threaten the eternal destiny of those in his grip. When we share the gospel with others we plant or water seeds that can result in a person, moving from darkness to light. You can make a forever difference in a person’s life. When they start following Jesus, they are moved from the path that leads to destruction to the path that leads to life. That is why Jesus said “I am the way.”

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

John 14:6
