Know an atheist?

I’m sure you know an atheist or two. They hate God. It’s not that they don’t believe in God; they hate God.

Ever told yourself something so many times but you started to believe it even though you knew it wasn’t true? Atheists will swear up and down they don’t believe in God. Do you buy it? I don’t.

18For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. 19For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them.

Romans 1:18-19

They know the truth and they don’t like it. So they make excuses. They’ll buy into phony unproven theories rather than accept the truth. God has made himself known. He’s done it so clearly that even a child can recognize it.

They will mock Noah’s ark and Moses parting the Red Sea. They’re looking for affirmation that they are right. But deep down they know they’re wrong.

They hate God but why? Pride is the enemy’s favorite tool and the atheist is filled with it.

20For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world,g in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse.

Romans 1:21

There’s no room for arguments. It’s clear. Get a telescope and you’ll see it’s clear. The universe shouts of a creator. It shouts clearly. At the great white throne the judgment, there will be no excuses. We cannot make up gods in our own image. When someone begins a sentence I don’t think a loving God would…. The rest of the sentence is likely idolatry. They have made up a god in their own image. What is God? He is who He is and our opinions are irrelevant. He is unchangeable, omnipotent and He is sovereign.

21For although they knew God, they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22Claiming to be wise, they became fools, 23and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things.

Romans 1:21-23

This passage is liberating. I no longer feel the need to argue with an atheist. They’ve darkened their hearts. I’m going to go after people who haven’t hardened their hearts. I’m not going to listen to nonsense atheist arguments. I don’t have time for the foolishness. I’ll pray for them, but I’m not going to let them distract me from the mission that God has for believers.

What are your thoughts?

I’m a child of God who has found joy and peace in Jesus, the King of the universe. He alone is worthy of all praise and glory. I’m a bivocational pastor and vegan who crochets and talks all things Jesus.
