If all the people on the earth were gathered in one place in the United States, it wouldn’t even cover the west coast; we’d fit in an area the size of New York City. The earth is really big compared to us. If all almost 8 billion of us were jumping up and down on the west coast we wouldn’t affect the earth’s rotation or anything.
The seas of the world take up most of the earth. We’re like 71% covered by water. 96% of the world’s water isn’t drinkable; which is the oceans. If you are a landcover like myself you can’t comprehend how vast the oceans are. Compared to each of us, the oceans are massive. Comparing them to the size of Jupiter or the sun, they wouldn’t be so big.
The sun is far away. It’s 92 million miles away. It’s the perfect distance to support life on earth. Any farther away and we would be an ice cube. If it were closer, we’d fry. 92 million miles sounds far, but check out how far these are:
- Andromeda is 3.537 light years away.
- Alpha Centauri is 4.37 light years away.
- Messier 87 is 83 million light years away.
- GN-z11 is 13 billion light years away.
Our universe is massive, but God is bigger.
He determines the number of the stars; he gives to all of them their names.
Psalm 147:4
There’s nothing He doesn’t know; there are no surprises to Him.
But will God indeed dwell upon the earth? Even heaven, the highest heaven, cannot contain You, much less this temple I have built.
1 Kings 8:27
We cannot comprehend how big God is. We need to stop saying things like:
- I think God is a God who accepts everyone as they are…. (yeah you and I know nothing. Jesus said the word repent MANY times in the New Testament.)
- I believe a loving God would never condemn…. (I repeat you and I know nothing – don’t put Him in a box; he’s a just God and we stand condemned already. He came to get you out of your mess.)
- Ask Jesus in your heart. Is this even Biblical??? I’ve read believe in your heart, but not ask me into your heart.
God is big. We’re not. Worship and follow Him like your life depended on it because it does.
