If God is the “man upstairs” for you, you may have a problem. You may not know God. You may have a big regard for God and pray to Him, but people never refer to people we know personally in such a way. We use names for people we know. If we know and love them very much, we may have diminutive nicknames for them even, but we don’t refer to them by gender.
The bigger problem is you may be trusting in your own goodness to save you in the last day. it doesn’t work. You may think you are going to Heaven based on your good works, but it’s a lie from the enemy.
for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
Romans 3:23
You are a sinner, same as I was! We’ve not kept the Ten Commandments; we’ve sinned against God. How many lies have you told? How many times have you sinned sexually? Have you ever taken God’s name in vain. Are you a lying, blaspheming fornicator? So you are not in a God position with God. If you died today trusting in your own goodness to get you to Heaven you would go to the fire. You broke the law and the wages of sin is death. (Romans 6:23) But the free gift of God is salvation through Jesus. You broke the law and He paid the fine so you can be free from your sin debt to God.
Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.
Acts 3:19
The only way to God is Jesus. You have to transfer your trust in your own goodness to trusting in Jesus for salvation. Ask Him for forgiveness and give Him a thank you for dying on the cross for you. Ask Him for the Holy Spirit. Then turn from sin and turn to Jesus.

Find someone to disciple you into spiritual maturity. Find a group of believers you can meet with and study the Bible with. The Holy Spirit can be the leader.
