The key to know if you are saved is the parable of the sower. Once you understand it, you understand all other parables.
- The sheep and the goats living together.
- The foolish virgins and the wise virgins.
- The good fish and the bad fish.
- The wheat and the tares.
Here is what a false convert looks like:
- There is an immediate response of yes. There is no weighing of the big issues. They receive the Word with gladness. See Luke 8:6 Mark 4:5 Mat 13:6 and Mark 4:16. When the Law is not preached there is no sorrow for sin.
- For awhile they do appear to grow. Luke 8:13 That which we cannot see is temptation, tribulation and persecution. If he is genuine the new convert will grow. If a false convert, they will fall away.
- They don’t read the Bible. You don’t have to tell a true convert to read the Bible. 2 Tim 2: 15 Luke 9 15
- They don’t get into fellowship.1 Corinthians 14:26
- They don’t keep the Law naturally. Romans 7:11
- They make provision for the flesh. They make excuses for their sin. They live with the opposite sex without marriage. 1 Peter 1:14-16
- They don’t have a zeal for the law.
- There is no love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness, self control.
- They sit in the church, but are hearers and not doers of the word.
- The don’t have a burden for the lost. Only 2% of professing Christians share their faith (source: Bill Bright). Would you sit and read a book while a child drowns? Yet people around you are drowning in sin. Or would a firefighter polish his truck while a home in front of him is in flames? Your friends, families and coworkers will GO to the flames unless they hear the gospel.
If you see yourself in the above, you probably saw that you are not on your way to Heaven. I’m sorry for that, but praise God for He has revealed this and you and still have time to repent.
Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!
2 Corinithians 13:5
If you sincerely don’t see yourself in any of that you are probably on fire for God. Pray to God and ask God which one your are. You can hide your true condition from others (and even yourself) but you can’t hide it from God. When we stand before Him there will be weeping because those who thought they were okay with God, will find out they didn’t know Him.
Don’t let that be you crying. Cry now. Cry out to God for forgiveness.
Check the GOOD PERSON TEST below. Give yourself 10 points for each thing you have not done.
Have you:
- Used the name of God as a curse word or say OMG?
- Told a lie?
- Stolen something?
- Looked at someone with lust?
- Had hatred for a person?
- Were you ever disobedient to your parents?
- Did you ever work on the Lord’s day?
- Did you keep God first in your life all your life?
- Did you make up a false idea of who God is? (I think God is…..)
- Did you ever want something that belonged to someone else?
How did you do? Did you get a high score? Did you get a low score? If so, you are in trouble on Judgement day. Is it Heaven or Hell for you? If you are like most people, you scored 0 and that’s an F and it means Hell for you if God judges you by those standards – His law. God is holy and just and those are His standards. He doesn’t change them or relax them with time.
Most people think that sin isn’t a big deal and God is forgiving and they will automatically go to Heaven. That’s not how it works and that is the lie. Someone has to pay the price for your sin – either you do or someone else does. The good news is Jesus paid the price for your transgressions. That’s why He died on the cross. You were destined for Hell. He finished your redemption. You need to transfer your trust from yourself to the Savior. If you have a true sorrow for your sin and turn to Him, He will forgive you. Trust in Him to save you on judgement day and repent and follow Him.
Repent therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.
Acts 3:19
