Can a Christian have a demon?

Yes, of course. That’s like asking can a Christian sin. If a Christian can sin, the influence is coming from somewhere! It’s certainly not coming from the Holy Spirit.

Can the Holy Spirit live the same place as demons? No, they don’t!

Demons don’t take up residence in your spirit; that is where the Holy Spirit dwells. When we are born into this world we are spiritually dead. When we are born again our spirit is changed from death to life.

Your Spirit is Justified by Faith.

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:1

Demons reside in the soul; your soul, mind, emotions & will are still being SANCTIFIED. That never ends until you meet Jesus face to face.

You are made perfect by the Spirit but you are still being renewed in your mind & sanctified within the soul. We are His workmanship created for good works. We are righteous in our spirit, but we still have the flesh to contend with.

All of our experiences, things we have done and said over ourselves as well as things others have done to us have allowed the devil access to our souls. The soul is also called our flesh and that is where demons operate. We wrestle against our flesh and in it is no good thing.

“For I know that in me, that is, in my flesh, nothing good dwells.”

Romans 7:18

So if Paul is saying in our flesh no good thing dwells, the Holy Spirit is not there.

“That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.”

John 3:6

So John is in agreement that spirit and flesh are two separate places in us. We cannot divide where one stops and the other begins, but the Spirit can and demons can. It is arrogant of anyone to say adamantly that a Christian can’t have a demon because we are NOT omniscient.

Then there is our body. These bodies of ours betray us. They get wrinkled and decrepit. They ache, but God has a plan: to glorify them!

“We eagerly await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transfigure the body of our humiliation to be conformed to the body of His glory, according to His operation by which He is able even to subject all things to Himself.”

Philippians 3:20-21

You’re 3 in one – just like your Creator.

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
