Being Mean to Jesus

40And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers,f you did it to me.’

Matthew 25:40

This verse is so scary. It means that if you do something bad to someone you are doing it to Jesus because he LOVES that person. Here’s where it gets personal.

  • A person cuts you off on the highway, do you call them an idiot or do you bless them?
  • A person steals the parking spot you were waiting for, do you call them a jerk or do you pray for them?
  • A child kicks the back of your airline seat, do you think bad words under your breath or do you say good things?
  • A political figure does things that you strongly don’t agree with, do you call them names or pray for wisdom for them?
  • An activist does something very bad, do you call them a derogatory name or do you keep silent?
  • A man rapes and kills a woman, do you call him a monster or do you pray for the situation?
  • A family member yells at you, do you yell back?

When you call these people names, you are doing it to Jesus. You are calling Jesus an idiot, a jerk, a monster, saying bad things, yelling at or calling him names. Because if you are doing it to the LEAST you are doing it to Him.

The opposite is also true. If you do good things to the least of his children you are doing it to Jesus.

  • Giving money to a homeless person is giving it to Jesus.
  • Letting someone go ahead of you even though you were first is letting Jesus be first.
  • Feeding a stranger is feeding Jesus.
  • Praying for a stranger is praying for Jesus.
  • Saying good things to someone is saying good things to Jesus.

The sheep and the goats parable is downright scary. It means you can be in the wrong and not even know it. You can believe the Bible and pray and do things and not really know God.

This is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.

I’m a child of God who has found joy and peace in Jesus, the King of the universe. He alone is worthy of all praise and glory. I’m a bivocational pastor and vegan who crochets and talks all things Jesus.
