One of the quickest ways to spark an argument in a Christian crowd is a bring up the topic of women in ministry. I get it I’ve been there. When I became a pastor I didn’t even have a construct for a woman pastor.
Context is everything in scripture. Taking things out of context is a way to mess up really quickly. So I’ll get to the meat of the matter.
There’s only two places in the New Testament where women are excluded from ministry leader ship roles: Ephesians and Timothy. Every place else in the old and New Testament you have women in every type of leader ship role that there is.
The problem with not taking context into consideration is you can become legalistic. We know how Jesus felt about legalism!
The church at Ephesus had a big problem in that city with Goddess worship. They had become legalistic, matriarchal and incorporated their worship into the service. Paul wanted nothing to do with that religion. He wanted them to look like Christians not goddess worshipers.
Paul regularly attended Lydia’s church and it’s recorded in the book of Acts. If Paul had a problem with women pastors why would he attend their churches? Wouldn’t he condemn it instead of praise it?
Often when there is a dearth of godly men God will use godly women and he does!
