Sincerely wrong

Sometimes we can sincerely believe things, but be sincerely wrong! How many of these old wives tales/myths do you believe?

  1. Carrying high? So it’s a girl.
  2. Spilling salt is a bad sign.
  3. Seeing a cardinal means an angel is near.
  4. Bad things comes in threes.
  5. Knock on wood so something bad doesn’t happen.
  6. A penny or a rabbit’s foot is good luck.

There is nothing scientific or biblical about any of these. They are old wives tales and superstitions and they aren’t true. We pass these falsehoods onto our children and then they pass them on.

We also like to think that we’re basically good people. When we evaluate our self against the 10 Commandments we see that we’re not.

Jesus said none were good except God. That’s a strong statement and he’s not wrong.

The good news for us is he has a rescue plan. The God who created the universe and spoke it into existence, died on the cross and was resurrected three days later for us.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

Romans 10:9

Notice it doesn’t say ask Jesus into your heart! It says believe in your heart which is deep down in your soul.

If you confess to God that you are a sinner and ask him for forgiveness, he is faithful to forgive your sin. If you want to hold onto that notion that you’re a good person, you can. If you want a saving kind of faith, admit it. Say to the Lord, “I’ve sinned and I ask for forgiveness.” If you don’t ask for it you don’t get it. It’s not going to come to you if you sit and do nothing.

Many of the things that Jesus said would happen in the last days are happening now. This is not the time to put off getting right with God.

Who is Jesus to you?

I’m a child of God who has found joy and peace in Jesus, the King of the universe. He alone is worthy of all praise and glory. I’m a bivocational pastor and vegan who crochets and talks all things Jesus.
