And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,
Ephesians 5:18
I want to be so filled with the Spirit that my spiritual tank never runs out; don’t you? The Holy Spirit is the one person that I can never get enough of. I’ve had really long phone conversations, zoom calls, etc with people, but there comes a point when you want to say goodbye. It’s like a natural end to the conversation. It’s not so with; the Holy Spirit.
What day do I want to be alone from Him? No day. David agreed when he wrote:
Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.
Psalm 51:11
There was a time when believers in Jesus didn’t have the Holy Spirit. They had to rely on the words written down in the Old Testament. There were only a few prophets that were fortunate enough to have the Holy Spirit come upon them, but He didn’t dwell in them. When Jesus was on this earth, his disciples relied on the words coming out of His mouth in addition to the written Old Testament.
Some times we slip. We fall. Our spiritual tank gets low and we aren’t filled with the Spirit. Right after one HUGE miracle, the feeding of the 5000, Jesus asked the disciples to get in a boat and this happens:
28And Peter answered him, “Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water.” 29He said, “Come.” So Peter got out of the boat and walked on the water and came to Jesus. 30But when he saw the wind,e he was afraid, and beginning to sink he cried out, “Lord, save me.” 31Jesus immediately reached out his hand and took hold of him, saying to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. 33And those in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
Matthew 14
Peter’s faith had grown to the point when he stepped out of the boat He did not sink immediately. That’s a huge faith; don’t we all want that? OK, so he slipped when he took his eyes off Jesus. Jesus restored him though. Jesus didn’t carry Peter back to the boat! Peter got his eyes back on Jesus and his faith was restored and they strolled back to the boat together.
What is the wind that distracts you from keeping your eyes on Jesus? How can you be so filled with the Spirit that your wind won’t matter? Can YOU make a plan today to accomplish that? What would that plan look like? It may include:
- Morning Bible reading
- Morning Adoration & Praise/ Confession & Prayer/Supplication
- Throughout the day conversations with Father God?
- Evening Bible reading
- Evening Prayers
Jesus gave us the incomparable privilege of calling God “Father.”

Let’s start living like kingdom children. Let’s drink in the Spirit like we are really really parched. If we want to abide in the Spirit, God will say yes. It’s what He wants. The question I ask now, is it what you want? Time will show it!
