We think we know everything. Science has become our God, and we pride ourselves on our knowledge of the universe and how it works. Are we really that smart?
We have “known ” that Jupiter was massive, and Saturn had an expensive ring system. But the more astronomy develops the more that those beliefs get crushed.
The Hubble telescope was launched in 1990 but it wasn’t until 2012 that a team from the University of Rochester, led by Eric Mamajek discovered something really incredible. There is a brown dwarf star called J1407B, which makes both Jupiter and Saturn look small. J1407B makes Saturn’s rings look puny. They are at least 200 times bigger than Saturn’s rings.
Why do you think it took 22 years to discover this? Our minds are not as great as we think they are. We strive to make them better and better because knowledge and it’s pursuit has become a god. We were so puffed up with our Hubble images. Thinking we are so great, but we aren’t as knowledgeable as the all knowledgeable God.
Then on Christmas day, 2021 the James Webb telescope was launched. The images from that are so much more detailed than the Hubble. It’s like going from a 110 Instamatic camera to a digital camera overnight. Sorry if some of you young people don’t know what that camera is but if you’ve seen photos from the 1970s, you’ve seen the photos taken by a 110 Instamatic camera.
A link for the James Webb telescope. Images is at the bottom of this article. Before you check them out, consider the creator who created all of this. Look to him, because he’s waiting for you with open arms.
3 When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
4 what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
Psalm 8
God, not space is the final frontier, my friends.
