We all experience bad things from time to time. Sometimes we see straight up evil operating and get the question why does God allow this?
First, we have to agree on: there is a good, and there is an evil. If not, then there’s no difference between Hitler and a person who feeds the homeless all the time. If good and evil exist, there has to be a judge of what is good.
God is that judge. And He is completely good. evil is the absence of Him.
Once we agree that God is the judge of what is good and evil, then we can ask the question, why does God allow it? Why doesn’t he just swoop down and get rid of all the evil? Well, if you read the Bible all the way through you know that is the plan and that that will happen in God’s timing.
Bad things don’t come from God they come from the enemy of God. Blame the right person for evil!
Sometimes we make bad choices and we have to live with the horrible consequences. That’s not God’s fault either – that’s your own.
Sometimes we live apart from God, doing our own thing, and so we’ve cut our self off from the source of knowledge. When we are walking with God, He warns us about potential dangers. If we’re listening to his voice, we can be warned and avoid them. For example, I’ve seen stories about people who didn’t report to work the day of 9/11. There were people who missed flights that day as well. If we’re walking closely with God, we save ourselves a lot of grief.
When we are in rebellion to God, our attitude is bad. When we have a great attitude, we don’t ask the question why would a loving God allow evil. When we’re in submission to God, we know and see that all things in this world are influenced by the enemy of God.
Lastly, without freedom to choose between good and evil, we would be puppets. God gives us the opportunity to love him, but He gives us the freedom to walk away from from Him too.
We know that all things work together for good to those who love God and are called according to his purpose. We know by faith that this is true; we may not always understand but we can trust him because he is 100% trustworthy.
