Leadership is upside down

Do you see yourself as a leader?

In the kingdom of God, things are upside down. Jesus said this:

It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant

Matthew 20:26

Serving others makes you great in God’s kingdom. Being attentive to their needs and meeting them elevates you.

This is totally opposite of what the world thinks. The world thinks bossing people around is leadership. The world things leadership is a guy or girl on top getting others under him or her to join in with them to accomplish a goal of the leader or organization.

In my role as pastor it’s nothing like that. It’s a constant serving: praying, expressing concern, teaching and preaching. It’s dropping everything for others in need when no one is available to do that for you.

By the latter standard I would consider myself a leader. I can’t minister any other way. People don’t like to be bossed around. Church doesn’t work the world’s way.

Jesus knowing he had one day left took a towel and washed people’s feet. That’s the example. I have a towel from my ordination to remind e if that.

How about you? Is your leadership style by bossing or serving? Do you see results from it?
