Advice can steer you wrong

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

Have you had a lot of people give you bad advice? I have seen the world has a lot of bad advice. Two different ladies gave me the titles of books I should buy which turned out to be New Age titles. Jesus, calling by Sarah Young and the secret by Rhonda Byrne. They wasted my money and introduced me to false doctrines. The Holy Spirit is faithful to point out error. Both books are that. I know many Christians swear by Jesus calling as being a great work, but the truth is – well there’s something off about her book.

The best advice comes from the Bible. There’s so much in that one collection of books that you can read it your entire life, and still not comprehend all the depth of it. i’ve heard so many things about the Bible lately that just leave me to believe the entire depth of the Bible is beyond human comprehension. Only the spirit of God can illuminate things in it for you.

If I’m going to narrow it down to one piece of advice, it would be pray. Time spent in prayer is not wasted. God meets us there in prayer. Time spent with God can change your life direction. It can transform you.

Let me give you an example. I’m going to see a relative who has said lies about me to another person and so the other person won’t talk to me. I’ve been praying for the person. I am going to see every day faithfully. But God showed me I still had some resentment toward the person, so I prayed and asked God to remove that resentment for her. After I prayed, God filled me with love for her hopefully that will spur me to prayfor her even more.

Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.

James 5:16

Church is important. You need that community to help you be a better Christian. The church is God’s idea. He loves his church and he’s coming back for her.

In light of that, I’ll offer you the same advice I received: pray.
