Does money matter?

List three jobs you’d consider pursuing if money didn’t matter.

Well, it kind of does and it kind of doesn’t.

That statement is kind of contradictory well it is contradictory, but it isn’t. Lol.

If you have a little you can pay rent, buy food, and have a little leftover.

If you have a lot, you can buy a house and then obsess over the house. You need to do this and that to it.

I have a friend who used to read her Bible every day, go to church occasionally, talk about God and pray. She bought this huge fixer-upper last year, and now all she does is suffer.

The pain in her voice is clear. She’s not reading her Bible or going to church. She doesn’t leave her home for any social gatherings. She looks like a slave to her wealth.

You can’t take money with you. You can spend your whole life accumulating it, but in the end it goes to somebody else. The money you take with you is the money you’ve given away. Things work differently in God’s kingdom.

Are you in God’s kingdom? Are you born again? Jesus said you must be born again to see the kingdom of God. Most people think that heaven is what he was talking about. That’s not the case.

When you are born again, things radically shift. It’s all about loving on Jesus, serving, Jesus, and obeying Jesus.

What causes a person to be born again? Is it baptism? Absolutely not. Jesus told the thief on the cross today you will be with me in paradise. He wasn’t baptized. Even if it rained, that’s not a baptism. It has to be an intentional decision to follow Jesus to be a baptism.

Is it going up front in a church and repeating a prayer? It depends on the person. The act alone doesn’t do it it’s what’s in the heart of the person that really needs to be examined.

  • Does the person want a ticket to heaven? Then probably no. Saying a prayer to get to heaven doesn’t work. They’re not magic words.
  • Is the person truly sorry for their sin? Probably but not always. Some people are great actors, and they feel that they mean it until the next day. Then they’re back to cursing and whatever they do that doesn’t glorify God.
  • Is their life changed totally? Then likely yes. The person lived for them self, and then they had this moment where everything changed and now it’s all about Jesus. But it’s not words it’s holy living, compassion for others, wanting them saved, and the fruit of the spirit are in abundance.

So my Catholic reader, your baptism was not your born-again experience. It wasn’t radical. The priest sprinkled some water on you, but nothing changed in your life. if baptism saved you, then what was Jesus on the cross when he told the thief you’ll be with me in paradise today? I’m not calling him a liar because he wasn’t one.

Faith in the son of God upon your realization you deserve a bad punishment for your sin, is exhibited by a verbal request to God for mercy.

It’s nothing you can do. You can’t earn it. You just get it as a free gift. But it totally marks a shift in you. You are not the same and people notice.

What’s with you? Are you religious or are you born again?

Religious people go to church to save them. Saved people go to church because they get to, they want to, they love to, because it’s where their people are.

Religious people wear a cross, saved people pick up their cross daily and follow Jesus.

Religious people start sentences with. I think God and then follow it with something ridiculous that’s not in the Bible. Saved people start sentences with I know God because he spoke to me this morning.

Religious people are ecumenical. They’re very inclusive about who’s going to heaven. All different face go to heaven because they’re all the same to them. Saved people know the only born-again people go to heaven.

Worship songs hit you differently when you have been pulled out of the pit of hell.

So what’s the three jobs that I want if money doesn’t matter?

  • Telling people about Jesus
  • Worshiping Jesus
  • Being a light to the world, who needs Jesus
