The Trinity Debunked or Defined?

The word trinity isn’t in the Bible, but the trinity is demonstrated in the Bible many times. Yet when pressed to explain it, people have a hard time. If I had a sealed 2 liter bottle of water, everyone would agree that is it 100% water. If I opened it and filled some ice cube trays with it using one third of the water, we would all agree that the ice is still 100% water. If I boiled one third of the water away into steam, it would still be water, but now we can’t see it in the air, but it’s still water. If you turned on a dehumidifier, water would be collected. Of course, we wouldn’t know which molecules came from the bottle and which came from the air, but the ability to be turned back into liquid form exists because it is still water. Steam, ice and liquid water are all water.

It’s the same way with God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit are three distinct persons, but the same essence-one God. We’ll look at each person of the trinity in Scripture.

Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Philippians 1:2

according to the foreknowledge of God the Father,

1 Peter 1:2a

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort,

2 Corinthians 1:3

These verses show the Father is God, but Scripture show us he is not just a god, but the only God:

And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

John 17:3

So the Lord Jesus Christ was sent by God, but was He God? Let’s look at the Scriptures concerning that.

waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ,

Titus 2:13

Titus was written by Paul who saw a resurrected Jesus on the way to Emmaus. He KNEW He was God because he saw Him in glorified form.

Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

John 20:28

Thomas knew Jesus was God because he was one of His disciples-the original 12. He’d seen miracle after miracle and witnessed his glory over and over again. He saw Him live a sinless life.

But of the Son he says, “Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom.

Hebrews 1:8

God the Father calls God the Son God!

No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

John 1:18 NIV

And use of I AM is a clear reference to his divinity because that is what the voice from the burning bush said to Moses. When He used I AM, the Jewish leaders tried to stone Him!

The Jews answered him, “It is not for a good work that we are going to stone you but for blasphemy, because you, being a man, make yourself God.”

John 10:33

What about the Holy Spirit? Is He an impersonal force or a person? Let’s take a look.

3But Peter said, “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land? 4While it remained unsold, did it not remain your own? And after it was sold, was it not at your disposal? Why is it that you have contrived this deed in your heart? You have not lied to man but to God.”

Acts 5:3-4

And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.

Ephesians 4:30

You can’t make an impersonal force sad, only a person.

All three persons were at the baptism of Jesus, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

Matthew 28:19

It says in the name, not names, of the three because they are one God.

For false christs and false prophets will arise and perform signs and wonders, to lead astray, if possible, the elect.

Mark 13:22

Jesus warned many false prophets would come and preach another gospel and surely they have: Islam, Jehovah’s Witness and Mormonism are among the false gospels which deny the trinity.

Follow Jesus, the Jesus in the Bible, and not some religion’s interpretation of Him. They will say they are the only way, but Jesus is the only way. Follow Him.
