Is the Bible reliable?

Often people will say that the Bible can’t be trustworthy because it’s so old. Those same people will trust 10th century manuscripts of Plato that were written 1200 years after Plato (427 BC-347 BC) lived. They also trust manuscripts of Herodotus (484 BC-428 BC) that were written in the 10th century AD some 1300 years later. There are only 8 ancient copies of his works. And Julius Cesar (100 BC-44 BC) wrote Galic wars but the 10 ancient copies were written 1000 years after his death. Aristotle (384 BC-322 BC) has only 49 copies of his work written some 1400 years later.

the Bible has over 5000 ancient manuscripts available for comparison. All of the books were written by eye witnesses or people who had access to eye witnesses. The Dead Sea scrolls were copies (written) 100 years after the time the events occurred and the original writers wrote the books within a 50 year time period.

The Dead Sea Scrolls were discovered in Qumran in 1947 and are the strongest archeological evidence for the Biblical stories. There was a complete book of Isaiah in the caves and many psalms. They proved biblical accuracy to an extremely high degree.

The writings of Roman historians Tacitus and Pliny the Younger affirm events in the life of Jesus. If we throw out their accounts then we also have to throw out all of their writings as well as Plato and Aristotle. The massive amount of copies we have of the Bible combined with eye witness testimony and affirmation by local historians shows us that we can trust the authenticity of the Bible. You can trust the Bible!
