A word to stop using

If you had to give up one word that you use regularly, what would it be?

Have you I heard of secondhand cussing? I intuitively knew it, but really didn’t embrace it. It’s when you use another word in place of a cuss word.

Examples are fudge or effing for the f word. Gosh darn for GD.

Jesus said

He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lewdness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness

Mark 7:20-23

So when I hit your funny bone or stub my  toe and a bad word comes out it’s a sign of what is in me.  My job is to be so filled with  His Word and His praise that when I stubb my toe good words proceed from my mouth, not bad words or secondhand cussing.

So gosh is the word I’m giving up.

I don’t want to be even secondhand cussing. I want to be so overflowing with his spirit that only he comes out.

I’m a child of God who has found joy and peace in Jesus, the King of the universe. He alone is worthy of all praise and glory. I’m a bivocational pastor and vegan who crochets and talks all things Jesus.

  1. The Holy Spirit used your response to convict me. I don’t do it often, but it’s the little foxes that God is having us to catch now.
Since becoming a Christian many years ago, I have not used curse words, but felt w to title my last post “Politics Be Damned” condemning the practice of promising what one has no power to deliver. The word “damn” should never be used in the spirit hate, but I believe the Bible supports its meaning to “condemn,” or “pronounce judgment upon” such as when Jesus cursed the fig tree. He did not actually use the word “damn” but damning it is what took place. God always looks at the heart and motive of all that we do: We are so prone to judge by our senses (eating the fruit of the wrong tree) and often condemning (cursing) what God has not condemned.
Thank you and bless you for giving me something important to think about this morning.
