Food for the holidays

Do you or your family make any special dishes for the holidays?

Whether it’s the cranberry orange relish for Thanksgiving, or the Christmas shape cookies or the hopping johns for new years, food plays an important part of the holidays.

It shouldn’t. Holiday means holy day. Who should be the important of every holiday??

I remember one Christmas, where through circumstances out of my control, my family could not be together. Oddly enough, it was the best celebration I’ve ever had. I love my family, but that day
didn’t involve a flurry of activity centered around gift giving or meals. It was all about Jesus.

My favorite holiday food isn’t something I put in my mouth. It’s spiritual food. It’s the bread of life Jesus. His words are sweeter than fudge. They don’t pack on the pounds/kilograms and the sweetness lasts a lifetime.

“I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst”.

John 6:35

I most likely will make some apple walnut dressing tomorrow even though I don’t cook a bird. My hope is to keep my eyes on the author of hope tomorrow and throughout the holiday season and for the rest of my life. I wish the same for you, grace, and peace to you.

I’m a child of God who has found joy and peace in Jesus, the King of the universe. He alone is worthy of all praise and glory. I’m a bivocational pastor and vegan who crochets and talks all things Jesus.
