How has a failure, or apparent failure, set you up for later success?
When I was new in the Lord, I didn’t have discernment yet… And I failed. I ate spiritual food from tables that had poison in the food.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.

I asked a “Christian” friend for a recommendation for devotional. She recommended Jesus calling so I bought it. Only to find out that the author’s teachings are filled with new age garbage.
I prayed and asked the Lord for discernment and found out there’s a lot of poison out there. But God loves his church so he gives discernment to those who ask for it.
Also, research the people you are listening to. If they are false teachers, there are most likely blogs explosing them.
