The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Psalm 34:18
The death of Charlie Kirk hit conservatives, moderates and even some liberals hard. Here we are over a week out and the sting of it still has people talking about it and attending vigils. Church attendance was higher than usual this past Sunday.
If you find yourself crushed in spirit, turn to the Holy Spirit for comfort; his nickname is literally that – Jesus called Him the Comforter. I preaching this message to myself too.
Yes, Charlie is gone from this world, but he is not gone from existence. He is alive in Heaven and his death mobilized an army worldwide. They were chanting “we are Charlie Kirk” in other nations even.
The hardest part is the children. I buried my biological father at age 13. But I lost him in my life at age 1. I barely have any memories of him. Yet I felt God watching over me scores before I became a Christian. They have a godly mother, which sadly, I did not. Pray for that family.
Back to your heartbreak, God knows you are hurting so give it up to Him. He wants to be the source of your comfort. He wants a relationship with you. That’s why Jesus came, died on the cross and was resurrected 3 days later. He came to pay a debt that wasn’t his to restore you in good standing to a relationship with His Father.
Will you give Him a sentence or two? That’s basically what prayer is: talking to God. Accept the gift he gave you, thank Him for dying for YOUR sin and give Him your life for the duration of what is left of it. Then ask for His Holy Spirit. The Spirit is God coming to live in you. He doesn’t leave us orphans. He comes to live in us until we are called to Him.
May God comfort you and bless you as you turn over the reigns of your life to Him.
